Irish Boxing Legend, Katie Taylor’s team are in town to discuss the possibility of her fighting at Croke park this year
MatchRoom boxing promoter, Eddie Hearn met Croke Park officials on Friday hoping to deliver a knockout deal. Croke Park has been rumoured as a potential venue for a fight between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua with Taylor being added on the main card for this event. However, Hearn said Katie Taylor should be the main headliner for any Dublin card.
He said: “With all due respect, I don’t think it’s the place to do this fight, either. Also, absolutely over my dead body is Katie Taylor going on an undercard at Croke Park.
“We’ll find out more on Friday. We’re ready to go and are up for doing it. Not necessarily with a finalised opponent, but in terms of the costs and the running of the show.”
Speaking to RTE earlier this year Taylor said: “Fighting my last fight in our most iconic arena, how special would that be?
“I think it would be absolutely remarkable if I was able to do that. I’m not sure if it is going to happen or not.”
The idea of Taylor fighting in Croke Park has been discussed for many years, but nothing has materialised. Boxing fans will be hoping this meeting will hopefully bring the dream to life.
