AN Omagh open-mic comedy group celebrated it’s fourth birthday with the announcement of a new travelling comedy group.
Bogan’s bar saw the anniversary of The Green Room, Omagh’s biggest comedy club on February 11. The night kicked off with a bang as many original acts from across Northern Ireland took to the stage with a bag full of laughs. Some big acts including Derry man Rory McSwiggan and Peter E Davidson had the audience in stiches as they returned for the night.
One of The Green Room organisers, Claire Corrigan, reminisced about four years of laughter through adversity.
“I established The Green Room after another comedy club in the town had to come to an end. As a single parent who couldn’t travel to Belfast every night of the week to take advantage of the flourishing comedy scene in the city centre, I felt this was a bit of a blow. So, I took it upon myself to continue an open mic night in Omagh for not just myself, but to make it accessible for others within the locality who wanted to give the people of Omagh an alternative comedy experience,” said Claire
At the end of the show on Sunday, Claire took to the stage and gave the announcement their new group Bitta Banter.
Claire described the group as “A new travelling comedy club which will move to a different county town in Tyrone every month.”
The idea replicated the original ideology of The Green Room as it allows people from outside of the town less travel to see these shows.
“It’ll be good,” said Claire, “It will be interesting to see the humour of country folk like me and how it compares to some of the bigger comedian’s we have had.”
