Ahead of the upcoming Spread The Word Literary Festival Martin Doyle , Books Editor of the Irish Times and aebut author, reveals his personal story in new book Dirty Linen.
He discusses the legacy of the Troubles from the perspective of his rural Co Down Parish, showcasing how many families ‘are still stuck unable to move forward’ and hopes the book can bring recognition to those affected, and solidarity with those still struggling.
Martin goes on to speak of the importance of bringing awareness to the fact the conflict affected both sides. Saying “It’s easy for us to dwell on the harm done to one side.” He says he tries to represent both sides equally throughout his writing.
He later makes reference to the strong wealth of writing coming out of Ireland at the moment. He claimed “Ireland is full of writing talent. Any young up and coming writers should pull from the well.”
Martin Doyle can be found on February 11 at the Waterside Theatre in partnership with the Spread The Word Literary Festival.
