A new flagship BBC programme has deep links with North West Regional College.
“Sunday with Anna Curran” began on May 11, and is presented by NWRC graduate Anna Curran, who previously completed the NCTJ Diploma in Journalism in the college. Anna is joined by two other team members with strong NWRC links. Programme producer, Jamie Taylor also studied journalism at the college while assistant producer, Laura Stewart is an NWRC journalism lecturer.
Anna started working at BBC Radio Foyle in 2013 and has previously filled in as presenter on several of the “institutional programmes”.
Assistant producer, Laura said she enjoyed preparing students for work in the radio environment.
“I think that’s what’s important to teach students, what makes a great radio programme. Sunday with Anna Curran is a perfect example of that. She is a really professional, experienced presenter, who connects really well with her guests, and I think that resonates with the audience.
“She gets great guests, with great stories to tell, and allows the interview space to breathe. She gives them the space to talk without interrupting. She shows great empathy, and curiosity, and I think that’s very important in terms of interview skills.
“That’s something that we try to focus on with students. It’s been a great experience, working in the college and seeing the show come together. I’m really proud of them,” Laura said.
“Sunday with Anna Curran” began May 11, on BBC Radio Foyle, Radio Ulster, and BBC Radio Sounds.
