Mel Bradley is a spoken-word artist and writer from Derry and she will be hosting a free creative writing taster workshop at the Spread the Word Literary Festival on February 8. She has been a featured performance poet at various festivals over the years, including Stendhal and Body & Soul.
The taster workshop will provide an introduction into a series of creative writing workshops run by Ms Bradley from February to April 2024.
This Spread the Word Festival at the Waterside Theatre excites Ms Bradley as she believes there is a ‘huge artist community’ in Derry, with many talented artists and authors having a place to display their work through this event.
The workshop is aimed towards all people aged 16+, and Ms. Bradley says people should not feel anxious attending as she aims to create a relaxing environment as she takes people through the world of creative writing.
She believes that beginner writers should ‘get out there and let their voice be heard.’
The diversity of acts at the Spread the Word festival is also important to Ms Bradley, as she states that ‘we tell stories to see ourselves.’ She also believes representation in events like this is crucial for people to find their place in the world.
