In Derry, excitement is building for the inaugural Spread the Word Literary Festival, scheduled for February 6-11. Organisers Zoe McSparron and Aoife Boyle are gearing up to showcase a dynamic literary event with a focus on community engagement. In an exciting addition to the upcoming Spread the Word Literary Festival on Friday, February 9, Young Adult authors Sue Divin, Jenny Ireland, and Kelly McCaughrain are embarking on a special tour, taking their expertise directly to local secondary schools in Northern Ireland. This unique opportunity allows GCSE/A-Level students to engage in roundtable discussions with each author, spending 20 minutes at each table to gain advice.

Aoife and Zoe are thrilled to announce Little Acorns Bookstore as the main sponsor for the Spread the Word Literary Festival. Nestled at 18 Great James Street, Derry/Londonderry, Little Acorns Bookstore stands as an award-winning independent business with a rich history dating back to its establishment in 2011, with Aoife saying: “Spread the word literacy festival is a multi-disciplinary multi-platform cross community literary festival that will highlight the importance of reading.”

Headline acts in this year’s festival include Bored of Lunch, Martin Doyle, Sam Blake Books, Brian McGilloway, Easkey Britton, Kerri ní Dochartaigh, Mel Bradley, ROE, The Pig’s Back, Marianne McShane, MakeyUppers and many more!

Those interested in attending can book online any time by selecting an event and clicking ‘Book Now’ at the waterside theatre website. Alternatively, interested parties can call (028) 71 314000 or visit in person during box office hours: Monday-Friday: 9:30am – 4:00 pm, one hour before a theatre performance or 30 minutes before a cinema screening.
