Media Students from NWRC had huge success when they travelled to South East Regional College this week for the annual Northern Ireland Colleges Media Awards. They came away with two first place awards as well as a second place and two thirds.

The awards were hosted by Cool FM presenter Pete Snodden and the judges were Tim Bryans, ALT Animation, Joanne Hall, Director and Liz Barron, NI Screen.

Afterwards, Liz Barron said “We were delighted with the high standard of the work that we saw. The future of the media industry in Northern Ireland is in good hands with these young people.

“It is brilliant to have a competition like this for all the NI colleges to compete against each other, enjoy seeing each other’s work and get a taste of what industry is looking for.”

In all there were five categories – Animation, Photography, Fiction, Factual and Music Video as well as the overall Showstopper which was won by HND Film student Eva Glenn with her atmospheric film Hear Me Out.

The other winners were:

Animation – 1st Matthew Acosta, HNC Digital Design

Photography – 2nd  Ryan Sheppard, ND Media

Factual – 3rd Lucas Deighan, ND Media

Fiction – 3rd Connor McDaid, ND Media
