The Foyle Film Festival launched on Friday night with a special preview screening of the new Disney film Strange Worlds. Featuring the voices of Jake Gyllenhall and Lucy Liu, it is a heart-warming tale of fathers and sons.

The family friendly computer-animated adventure was inspired by the science fiction works of Jules Verne, and also touches on LBGT themes.

The launch marks the 35th year of Foyle Film Festival, as it promises a diverse mix of local, Irish and international talent. It also marked 10 years of collaboration between the Foyle Film Festival and the Brunswick Moviebowl venue.

Family classics like Jumanji and Beauty and the Beast are being screened, as well as new releases, such as the Irish drama The Cry of Granuaile.

Other highlights include the new Olivia Coleman drama Empire of Light, which closes the festival on November 27.

Strange Worlds is released in cinemas on November 23. The Foyle Festival runs from Friday November  18 – Sunday November 27.
