Ukranian families who have moved into the North West will now have access to children’s books in their own language, thanks to a Donegal Libraries Initiative. The new books have been catalogued in the Cyrillic alphabet making it easy to request them on the Donegal Libraries website.
A spokesman said “Donegal Libraries have been very active in providing high quality services to all of our users. In addition to our existing and new book stock in the Ukrainian language we have sourced DVDs. In association with Donegal County Childcare Committee we host weekly Stay and Play storytime sessions in seven libraries (Central, Buncrana, Carndonagh, Bundoran, Twin Towns, Milford and Leabharlann Phobail na Rosann). We also offer basic English classes in conjunction with Fáilte Isteach on Wednesday mornings at 10.30 am in Central Library, Letterkenny. Libraries are welcoming, all inclusive spaces where membership and access is free. We have a wide range of services including eBooks, eMagazines, eNewspapers, research with Encyclopaedia Britannica and Oxford University Press. You can also learn online with Universal Class, Transparent Languages and Touch-type Read & Spell.
