Experienced individuals with a knack for repairing electrical items are being called on to use their skills to keep electricals out of land fill.
Recycle your Electricals research has shown that the majority of people believe recycling is a good thing. Derry City and Strabane District Council and Repair & Share Foyle are teaming up to encourage the reuse and repair electrical items.
Repair & Share have an active pop-up Repair Café Foyle which will travel to host venues with a team of volunteers, fixing things for free.
The Switch to Repair campaign will launch in March with a focus on rural Strabane.
Repair Café Foyles Project Coordinator Caroline McGuinness Brooks said,
”Electrical and electronic skills to tackle e-waste are especially welcome and a willingness to travel to Strabane once a month on a Saturday morning with possibility for additional volunteer opportunities once a month on a weekday evening.”
To make things easy there will be kerbside collections and drop off points where you members of the public can leave unwanted electrical items for repair.
