The 29th annual Guildhall Craft Fair will be launched on Friday. This year it features more than 40 local businesses, artisans and merchants. The event is an important part of the local trading calendar in the build up to Christmas. Locally produced handcrafted artworks and products are available for those looking to buy a unique Christmas gift.
It also featured performances from local choirs, performing both hymns and popular songs.
“It’s a great platform for springboarding people’s businesses definitely, and it’s great for the city as well,” said Kerona Hassan of Doganic Barkery.
Doganic Barkery sells healthy treats for dogs. For the Fair, they come with a special Christmas theme. It is emblematic of the unique spirit of the artisan event.
The distinctive setting of the Guildhall also adds a distinctive flavour to proceedings.
Amy Burns of the business Knot From Here sells driftwood lights, made from wood coming from the Wild Atlantic Way and local saunas.
“It’s brilliant. Everybody’s so friendly and the place is just decorated so nice.”
“We’re in a lovely position at the top of the stairs, and the lights, everybody sees them as they come in, so a lot of nice feedback so far.”
“We’ve done a couple of markets with some people here which is really nice, so familiar faces and new faces.”
Other gifts available include handmade wooden greetings. The event has proven popular with local customers and will almost certainly return next year for its 30th year.
