The Alley Theatre in Strabane is organising a colourful programme of workshops for children, families and adults, during the autumn at Strabane Library.
From October through to December, the programme offers something for all ages and interests, from traditional crafts and upcycling to animation, ceramics, creative journaling, and festive making.
Whether trying a new skill or simply looking for an enjoyable way to spend time being creative, participants will have the opportunity to make something unique to take home.
The programme gets underway this month with a six-week embroidery course, where participants can learn a range of stitches and create their own personalised tote bag with artist Sinéad Crumlish. Running from October 7 to November 18, the Wednesday afternoon sessions are suitable for beginners and more experienced crafters alike.
Ms Crumlish will also lead a four-week furniture upcycling workshop from October 8, showing participants how to transform a small piece of furniture using Annie-Sloan Chalk Paint, stencilling, decoupage and basic upholstery.
There are plenty of opportunities for younger creatives too. On October 10, children can bring Lego to life in a fun Lego Animation Workshop, creating their own film using an iPad, sound effects and visual effects. Later in the month, Halloween takes centre stage with Spooktacular Halloween Science on October 28, followed by a Monster Making Workshop on October 29 and a Spooky Light-Up Kite Workshop on Halloween itself, October 31.
A Willow Woven Bowl workshop on October 17, introduces participants to the art of willow weaving. In November, during a a Ceramic Cottage Workshop, participants can learn hand-building techniques and create their own glazed ceramic piece.
Adults can also take some time to slow down and explore their creativity through a four-week Creative Journaling workshop, with artist Bernie Wilson of ART FARM. Running from November 3 to 24, the sessions combine writing, drawing, collage and mindful prompts, with all materials provided.
As Christmas approaches, the programme takes on a festive feel with Children’s Christmas Ceramic Painting on November28, an Adults’ Christmas Angel orkshop on November 2 and a Glass Art Christmas Tree Decorations workshop with tutor Natasha Duddy on December 10.
With a mix of creative experiences on offer, Strabane Library will be a welcoming space to learn new skills, meet others, and enjoy some creative time throughout the autumn and festive season.
Places are limited for all workshops, so early booking is recommended. Please visit www.alley-theatre.com or call 028 71 384444 for more information and to book your place.
