Walk into the media department at North West Regional College in Limavady and you could be forgiven for thinking you had walked onto a film set.
The media department has had a complete overhaul to include new an industry standard television facility, the latest cameras and lights as well as modern furniture and study spaces.
Ian Broome, Media Co-ordinator at the college spoke passionately about the positive impact it will have for the college.
“The first message this will send out is that in Limavady media is here; we exist!
“We are ahead of the curve; we have got this amazing facility. It’s a calling card to say we offer media, we offer it at a high level, we have great industry standard software, hardware, and great members of staff.
“Come and check us out. Media isn’t just pigeonholed for the big city we are offering it here in Limavady!”
Ian also describes the newly renovated area and how students had direct involvement in the project.
“The students have contributed to the decorating of the room. One of the students Amelia Silina, has picked some wonderful movie posters and we have created this living media hub for students.
“One room is complete, and the other will be ready after Easter, we are going to get some amazing soft furnishings and contemporary furniture so it will make the place pop and stand out.
“It is a wonderful, beautiful space with facilities like television production and film editing. It’s a very inviting, comfortable space and is very representative of the creative industries.
“It will ultimately be a place that students will want to come to study, and they will want to look after it because it’s their space.”
Amelia, a current media student, explains how she finds it different to her previous school and how it is an environment which helps her creativity.
“There is a lot more space, we have got good computers, software, and equipment. It just feels like a better more spacious environment rather than
being crammed into one room with 30 seats. I think it’s a lot better for learning.”
