A Derry band, whose members are all neurodiverse, are playing a gig at the Millennium Forum next month, The High-End Dead include Aidan Lynch (keyboardist), Owen Coyle (lead singer), Jack McHale (Band Manager), Caoilte Canning (Drummer) and Jason Welsh (drummer and vocalist). The band share a common ground not only with music, but also personally.
Aidan said “We are all neurodiverse, our lead singer has cerebral palsy. We knew this about each other beforehand and we just started to feel like a family.”
The band want to perform in different venues as well as spreading a positive message on neurodiversity and share their experience with having autism.
“Keep going you’re strong. We have proven to ourselves that neurodiversity doesn’t hold you back but something that can drive you forward.”
As a band they enjoy playing a wide variety of music and Lynch described their music taste to be within the ‘indie- rock genre.’ Aidan was playing the keyboard from the early age of seven and used his talent to become a member of the band. It gave Lynch the opportunity to “explore music in a nice welcoming environment and the band became a support network for me.”
Aidan is currently a full time student at North West Regional College, studying a Level 5 HND in Creative Media and Production. He is excited to be playing at the Millenium Forum.
“My passion is with music I absolutely love it! I never dreamt of performing it just kind of happened and I’m learning how to become more performative.”
The High- End Dead practice regularly and are hoping to continue to play in different venues across Northern Ireland and already have their sights set on Belfast and Bangor.
