Almost half of all households in Northern Ireland don’t have a dishwasher, according to newly released figures.
In the latest water usage survey, Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency has revealed that 43 per cent of households in Northern Ireland didn’t own a dishwasher, while only 18 per cent of households used a dishwasher daily.
Despite the surprising statistic, the figures remained relatively unchanged from household statistics from 2023, which claimed 42% of households didn’t own a dishwasher. Only a 1% increase over three years.
Ben Anderson, from Ballymoney, has recently moved into a house which doesn’t have a dishwasher, he said, and spoke about his day-to-day life without one.
“It doesn’t really affect me; it does annoy me sometimes thinking about doing the dishes.”
“If I had a dishwasher, I could just throw the dishes in and not have to worry about it, but it still doesn’t really affect me,” Mr Anderson said.
Despite it not affecting his everyday life, the Ballymoney Man still said he’d “love” to have one but claimed it would be “unaffordable” and would be a hassle to get one installed.
“I would rather just do the dishes myself,” he said.
