Several hundred people have attended a rally in the Guildhall square in Derry today to protest the death of George Floyd in the United States. The rally was organised by the North West Migrants forum to support the Black Lives Matter campaign. During the protest, the large crowd in attendance took a symbolic knee for eight minutes and forty-six seconds in memory of Mr. Floyd who died at the hands of U.S. police in controversial circumstances.
Police made repeated calls for those present to disperse or face the prospect of fines for breaching covid lockdown restrictions.
Lilian Seenoi-Barr, Director of the North West Migrant forum, thanked the assembled crowd for attending the rally.
