An annual appeal for the homeless in Strabane is to continue this Christmas in memory of the organiser who passed away in August.
Angela McConnell, who every Christmas collected sleeping bags to distribute to those sleeping rough in the Tyrone town, was the former Strabane Campus Manager of NWRC.
Even as she knew she wouldn’t see another Christmas she asked her husband John and best friend Samantha Traynor, Head of Craft Services at NWRC, to carry on the appeal.
Samantha said “She was a special person who served her community well as a businesswoman, nurse and educator.
“I spoke for 11 minutes at her eulogy and I could have gone on for 11 days.
“Throughout her life Angela was driven by a desire to help others. From caring for the terminally ill as a Marie Curie nurse to then becoming a college lecturer Angela’s career was based around caring.”
She was also highly successful during her time at NWRC, being recognised as Manager of the Year in 2015.
Anyone who would like to donate to the appeal can drop off sleeping bags at Knockavoe School and Resource Centre, St Catherine’s Primary School and Ciaran Colm Coyle, Mortgage and Insurance Brokers, Railway Road, Strabane.
