Local ‘colourful character’ Jimmy (James) Brolly was today laid to rest in the City Cemetery after Requiem Mass in St Mary’s Creggan. His death came following a short illness.
Hundreds of Derry people have been paying tribute and expressing their condolences on various social media platforms to ‘wee Jimmy’ or ‘Scotch Jimmy’ as he was known.
Mr Brolly, 68, lived at Damien House and was often seen making his way around the city with a kind word or smile for everyone despite his own challenges.
Damien House offers crisis accommodation for those experiencing addictions problems.
SDLP MLA Mark H Durkan had set up a JustGiving page and within hours the target had been met with over £2000 raised.
He said “ Many of us will have experienced the warmth of Jimmy’s personality.”
