Angry Cherry on Foyle Street is now running a food and toy drive for Foyle Foodbank until December 18.
The shop has also raised almost £6000 for Derry charities through a series of quizzes over the last five years. Jamie’s Journie and Project Hope among others have benefited from these efforts.
The Big Nerd Quiz Part Deux was held at Halloween. It was the tenth of its kind hosted by the store and raised over £500 for Foyle Foodbank.
Foyle Foodbank strive to provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support. They are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks fighting poverty and hunger in the UK with the support of the Trussell Trust.
Angry Cherry’s, Marty O’Kane said that they felt the charity was a perfect place to donate to.
“We know its a busy time of year for a lot of families that are struggling,” he said.
He said that there has been a gradual increase in every quiz they have held over the years.
Mr O’Kane described one night when they raised over £700 as ‘phenomenal.’
He finished by saying, “It all goes to charity, it’s for a fantastic cause.”
This is the second year that the shop has run the food and toy drive for the charity. Last year it was a big success thanks to the generosity of the public.
