Local Derry sensation, Nadine Coyle has asked her followers on twitter for ‘novenas and prayers’ ahead of her appearance on I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here!
The popular show, returns to our TV screens this Sunday. Now in its 19thyear, the list of celebs due to make the trip Down Under to brave the horrors and hardships of the jungle has been unveiled.
Former Girls Aloud star Nadine is hoping her experience in the Australian jungle will toughen her up.
The singer said ‘”I really hope that by doing this, it pushes me so far out the comfort zone that I learn to be comfortable, feel relaxed and do the things that I didn’t used to be afraid of.”
Among the stars sharing the jungle camp with Nadine, will be ex-Arsenal footballer Ian Wright and 70-year-old former Olympian Caitlyn Jenner. Jenner who underwent gender re-assignment in 2017, is reportedly being paid a whopping £500,000 by ITV bosses.
Many excited fans have already taken to social media to voice their support for Nadine. Local Derry people are also backing the singer, hoping that her distinctive accent will be a hit with viewers across the nation.
The native Derry girl shot to fame in 2001. Auditioning for the Irish version of Popstars, Nadine initially made it all the way in the competition. Although, it later emerged that at 16 years of age, she was too young and had to leave the band. Encouraged by Louis Walsh, Nadine auditioned for the British version, the following year. Once again, she was successful in making the band. Girls Aloud as the group would be known, would go on to land four UK number one singles, six top 10 albums and performed on five sold-out tours of the UK before splitting in 2013.
Since her Girls Aloud heyday, Nadine has busied herself in various other roles including opening a restaurant, establishing her own record label and releasing solo material. The 34-year old also had a child with her long-term boyfriend, ex-American Football star Jason Bell.
With the couple deciding to part ways, earlier this year, the Australian jungle represents a new challenge for Nadine. Her appearance on the show may serve as a boost to her career as it has done for previous contestants. Mylene Klass who appeared on the sixth series of the reality show, saw her popularity soar, albeit thanks to certain footage of her taking a shower.
Mylene, who had a singing career in the band Hear’say, shared many career similarities with Nadine. Klass now enjoys a whole new second career in television.
Having arrived at Brisbane airport yesterday, many bush tucker trails involving creepy crawlies and gruesome tasks await Nadine. In previous series, contestants had to eat everything from crickets and cockroaches, to kangaroo testicles. Millions of viewers will be tuning in nightly to see how Nadine copes.
I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! starts on Sunday November 17 on ITV at 9pm.
